Alpha: First letter in the Greek alphabet. Often used as the term for the highest ranking or most powerful member in a group. In wolf shifter packs, there were two ways to become an Alpha. The first was to be elevated to that position within one's Pack. The members of the Pack must believe that person deserves to be Alpha. That person then absorbs the power of that belief. This type of Alpha could also lose that power if enough shifters lose faith in him or her. The other way to become an Alpha is through birth. Some individuals are born with an extremely high-power signature. Their power could be taken away from them through their own self-doubt. In the past, most Packs sought to degrade female Alphas for fear of them becoming too powerful.
Beta: Second letter in the Greek alphabet. Often used as the term given to the second in command of a group. If an Alpha is overthrown, injured, or dies, a Beta can be elevated to the rank of Alpha.
Delta: Fourth letter in the Greek alphabet. In the Sovereignty of the Twelve Moons, the Deltas make the police and military forces. They have their own rank system.
Dragon shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking the form of a dragon. Their abilities and personalities vary, depending on the type of dragon.
Griffin shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking the form of a griffin. Their abilities vary depending on the pantheon of the griffin’s origin. However, they are known as being righteous and incorruptible. Griffin shifters are fond of shiny objects and have been known to guard the treasuries of kings and queens.
Mute: A wolf shifter who suffered from a slight neurological disorder. It prevents them from receiving and projecting their voices to telepathic wolves.
Omega: The twenty-fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. Often the lowest and weakest member in a Pack. Omegas are known for being highly submissive and unable to breed.
Omicron: The fifteenth letter of the Greek alphabet. In the Sovereignty of the Twelve Moons, they are part of the academic guild.
Owl Shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they can take on the form of an owl. They achieve flight by combining temperature and gravity magic.
Psi: The twenty-third letter of the Greek alphabet. Psi are the second lowest ranking members of a Pack. Psi were too weak for physical labor and not intelligent enough for academic work. They lack the ambition to try to rise above their status. They also accept doing menial tasks in exchange for food and shelter. Psi have an easy-going attitude toward life. However, they are stubborn in their willingness to let things happen to them.
Shifter: A hybrid, the result of a human and animal or other creature. Their origin is unknown, but it is widely believed that these individuals were originally capable of channeling their spirit guides when Earth and Erda were still one. Upon separating the two dimensions, the animal or creature half of the individual permanently attached its essence to that person. Shifters will often speak of their animal or creature halves as separate entities that live within them. However, since their human halves are the dominant of the two, they retain control of their actions despite their altered forms unless they are prevented from shifting back. In that instance, their animal or creature forms will eventually become dominant and those individuals will lose their humanity. Shifters’ abilities vary, depending on their animal or creature halves. Many possess similar characteristics, such as being able to take on the form of the animal or creature at will. It is not recommended for female shifters to attempt to shift after the first trimester of pregnancy, however.
Unicorn shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking the form of a unicorn. Rare on both Earth and Erda, their magic is a weaker version of a unicorns. Their magic abilities fall in the light spectrum, while being able to purify various substances.
