Aura: The energy field projected by living things. Its color can determine several characteristics about an individual. The more complex the entity, the more layers and colors it may possess.
Aurae: Nature spirits who are associated with the air element. Humanoid in appearance, they can range from tiny to gigantic. Their skin appears translucent although they can camouflage to appear the same color as the present shade of the sky.
Dragon shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking the form of a dragon. Their abilities and personalities vary, depending on the type of dragon.
Empath: a person who is capable of sensing the emotions of another person. Empaths may experience others’ emotions as if they were their own. Sometimes, empaths can project their emotions on others.
Flah: Irish slang for an attractive woman who is likely to be a slut or whore.
Gargoyle were-baboons: originally, the baboons that were granted the gift of human intelligence by Thoth. During the full moon, they can shapeshift into their human forms. If they displease Thoth, they are turned to stone and only allowed to roam during the full moon.
Griffin shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking the form of a griffin. Their abilities vary depending on the pantheon of the griffin’s origin. However, they are known as being righteous and incorruptible. Griffin shifters are fond of shiny objects and have been known to guard the treasuries of kings and queens.
Half-breed: term given to someone whose mother and father are from two different races.
Immortal: beings that hardly age after they reach puberty. Their life spans are seemingly infinite. Although they heal easily, they can die from major injuries or by being poisoned. Due to their extensive lifespans, they rarely need to breed.
Internal Affairs Department: Branch responsible for monitoring the actions of the hierarchies within each department of the BCW.
Ley lines: naturally formed straight lines that possess mystical tendencies. The energy that is felt on ley lines may be related to magnetic fields. Although there is no current scientific evidence to back either claim, they exist mainly to separate Earth from Erda.
Lycanthrope virus: an infection that causes the host to become a werewolf. Similar viruses are known to create other breeds of were-creatures.
Mage: a person without any magical ancestors who can tap into wells of magic from various metaphysical, perpendicular planes of existence.
Magician: a person whose ancestors come from Ancient Egypt. His/her magic is drawn from the perpendicular plane of existence known as the Duat.
Medium: a person who is capable of communicating with deceased individuals inhabiting other planes that cannot be inhabited by corporal beings.
MI18: British intelligence designated to work with any activity that includes Erda.
Mortal: being that can live up to one or two centuries. Mortal bodies start to degenerate once they reach adulthood; and due to their short lifespans, most choose to breed in early to middle adulthood.
Nexus: epicenter of magical activity located in the Fastness.
Owl Shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they can take on the form of an owl. They achieve flight by combining temperature and gravity magic.
Precognition: the ability to foresee future events.
Psychic: a person who is capable of knowing information through non-traditional means.
Psychometrist: a person who is capable of gathering information through the sense of touch.
Shifter: A hybrid, the result of a human and animal or other creature. Their origin is unknown, but it is widely believed that these individuals were originally capable of channeling their spirit guides when Earth and Erda were still one. Upon separating the two dimensions, the animal or creature half of the individual permanently attached its essence to that person. Shifters will often speak of their animal or creature halves as separate entities that live within them. However, since their human halves are the dominant of the two, they retain control of their actions despite their altered forms unless they are prevented from shifting back. In that instance, their animal or creature forms will eventually become dominant and those individuals will lose their humanity. Shifters’ abilities vary, depending on their animal or creature halves. Many possess similar characteristics, such as being able to take on the form of the animal or creature at will. It is not recommended for female shifters to attempt to shift after the first trimester of pregnancy, however.
Sorcerer: non-magical being whose magic is derived from secondary sources, such as, books of power, relics, etc.
Telepathy: the ability to communicate with others solely through the mind. It also includes the ability to extract information from other people’s minds.
Unicorn shifter: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking the form of a unicorn. Rare on both Earth and Erda, their magic is a weaker version of a unicorns. Their magic abilities fall in the light spectrum, while being able to purify various substances.
Vampyric: adjective describing species whose main source of sustenance is blood.
Viking seax: single-edged blade.
Warlock: magic practitioner who gains power strictly by stealing the magic and/or life force of another living being.
Warlock Wars: catastrophic event that took place during the last Ice Age.
Were-: An individual suffering from a virus that is associated with a particular animal or creature. He/she can retain a human appearance most of the time, except during the full moon when he/she must shift into their alternate form. Most weres are capable of shifting into their alternate forms if provoked.
Were-bear: Humanoid in appearance, they are capable of taking on the form of a bear. Were-bears are also known to hibernate throughout the winter. Those living in the northern areas of Erda may hibernate for years at a time, depending on their metabolism and the amount of food they ingest prior to hibernation.
Werewolf: an individual suffering from the lycanthrope virus. He/she can retain a human appearance most of the time, except during the full moon when he/she must shift into wolf form. Most werewolves are capable of shifting into their wolf forms if provoked.
Witch: female descendent of the gods and goddesses who requires rituals, runes, relics, words of power, or other secondary sources in order to access her innate abilities.
Wizard: male descendent of the gods and goddesses who requires rituals, runes, relics, words of power, or other secondary sources in order to access his innate abilities
