Sable by Marie Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Marie Hall breaks a ton of writing rules in her YA/NA "Sable Book 1 of Chaos Time". This multiple perspective series shoots the reader through time and space as four companions attempt to change the course of history. The problem is that they failed the first time. Hunter, their leader and time jumper, has lived through the future's destruction. He risks creating paradoxes with each jump he takes, but he knows he must succeed. His first companion is Sable. Abandoned by her parents as a child she's had to endure years of physical and psychological abuse of her caretakers in an asylum for the mentally and physically handicapped. It's not her fault that her singing and screaming can kill. Instead of trying to figure out how to control this deadly ability, she has to wear a choke collar and is often subjected to physical blows to her throat. If she dares to speak she is strapped down and medicated into a stupor. But Sable is now seventeen, and the advances of a caretaker she named "fat basterd" are becoming more and more blatant. This is the condition Hunter finds Sable. Can he convince her to help him fight for his cause or is he doomed to let history repeat itself? Overall, a thrilling beginning to another one of Marie Hall's fascinating series. The main characters are seventeen, eighteen, twenty and ?. There is foul language that is commonly used by young adults and new adults. There are provocative themes throughout the series. And most importantly there are tons of cliffhangers. Each novel in this series feeds into the next. "Sable" acts as an introductory story, but if you are willing to look past that it hooks you into wanting to find out what happens next.

Slayde by Marie Hall My rating: 5 of 5 stars "Slayde" is the second installment in Marie Hall's Chaos Time Saga. Just because the novel is named after one of the main characters doesn't mean that the story is solely from his perspective. Hall continues to shift character point of views while progressing the series's plot line. Eric Slayde, Sable Ray, Arianna, and Hunter Grey travel back in time to Ancient Mexico. While Hunter is looking for the Lord and his source of power, the others spend their time observing the inhabitants of the city from a far. Overall, this is an exciting addition to the series. Character relationships develop further, and yes there is a cliffhanger at the end. Luckily, the next novel of the series is available so you won't have to wait to read the next episode. Nixie, daughter of Paz and Jinni, is called in front of the Genie high council just after her eighteenth birthday. As a daughter of a genie, she has magic in her blood, and as a result is forced into servitude for fifty Kingdom years. The problem is that she wants to live a mortal life on Earth. Being turned into a genie meant that she'd have to leave behind her parents, her mortal uncles, and her boyfriend. Her parents are immortal, so she'd see them again in the future, but everyone else would be long dead by the time she'd be free. When she couldn't fathom things getting any worse, they do. Overall, "Her One Wish" is extremely well written, emotionally charged, and an amazing read. Oh, and by the way, Robin Hood is in it as well! View all my reviews | Click to set custom HTML |
